Router died
After many years my Edimax BR-6204WG router decided to die. After much investigation I decided to purchase a Linksys E2000 from Amazon. The software that comes with this device will only run on XP and above which is a problem. I had to copy the cd on to a memory stick, then run it on my Samsung NC-10 netbook which doesn’t have a cd drive – quite a palava. Then I then find that it won’t connect to my Linksys webcam as the webcam doesn’t have WPA2 security and there’s no Firmware Update. Linksys Cisco support is pants!

A new scam
The last few weeks we have been receiving the usual DHL and FedEx spam that encloses a Virus infected zip attatchment but recently a new one claiming to be from “IRS.gov” regarding your Tax Return. Strange no dodgy links to click. We will investigate.

Money Making Schemes
In the last few weeks this blog has been inundated with people offering money making schemes. Whilst I’m not ungrateful for the advice, I won’t provide you with free advertising for your latest venture.
One guy got quite upset that I deleted his post. No advertising on here please. Thank you.

More spam
Just had another wierd spam email, it begins:
“Hello, im Julia.
I found you in my friends list.
I’m guess I added you at the one of social networks…..”
The email address is “info@julianewyork76.com“. I’ve had 15 up to now, all the same with the same photo of a blonde young lady outside Madison Square Garden. They all seem to come from a private IP address (10.14.37.68) but offer no sales (Viagra or otherwise) so I’m puzzled.

Bike
If there’s one thing I really really hate is paying for parking. I have decided to order a portable bike. Hopefully I’ll get a little fitter as well.
I am (and always will be) a “petrol head”. I won’t be turning into a lycra lout!. Looking at various makes, quite like the Brompton. I hear there’s a two month wait as they are built to order. Not a problem.

Cabinet
The computer room is looking very untidy lately so decided to try and put the lot in a 19 inch rack. Have ordered it from a company in Oxford and hopefully will come within the next week. Need some metalwork and a 16 port gigabit switching hub. Quite a big project.

Blog Log
Not checked the WordPress logs recently but today I find 853 posts marked as Spam. These are mainly those enhancement and enlargement types so I deleted the lot. Will investigate whether they came from “bots” or real people. Wierd!

Forum
Since I put up the KEsoft Forum a few weeks ago I’ve got a few new “posters”, mainly from our Russian friends. Not quite sure what they aim to do, hopefully not hack it. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody.

Hackers
November, today I had 7 attempts to post some nasty filth in this Blog. I have removed it of course and have reported the individuals concerned. I’m puzzled as to why they wish to do this. To quote a phrase “There’s now’t as queer as folk”. KEsoft

Searching
There is a saying - If something works, don’t meddle around with it.
I always used Yahoo (in preference to Google) for my searching habits. I’m not a fan of Google keeping everyone’s search results but that’s another story. Recently Yahoo changed the look of their search page and I’m not impressed. I’m trying out Bing and it looks quite good.
